but much more of the latter than the former. At the end of the day, Tecmo Bowl Throwback on iOS is a mix of the good and the bad. This is certainly a plus, though that doesn't make up for the fact that the game itself isn't that fun to play. Obviously, part of the enjoyment of playing a season in any football video game is tracking team and player statistics, and Tecmo Bowl Throwback allows you to do all of this. You can even play up to three consecutive seasons with the same team. Season Mode shows more promise, especially because it goes a long way in tracking statistics, standings and the like. That's right - there's no way to create a match-up of your choosing in Tecmo Bowl Throwback. Quick Play is an exceptionally strange mode simply because it automatically chooses the teams that will play in the game at hand. Otherwise, there's nothing else you can really do in the game (save for play with all-star teams and the like). Tecmo Bowl Throwback totes a Quick Play option, as well as a fully-fleshed out Season Mode. You could opt out of playing a game and instead become a team's coach, but that's just outright boring. The game's controls are cumbersome, and while they function properly at times, they are more often than not inexact and unresponsive. For a quick-moving sport reliant on nearly two-dozen players on the field at a time, your fingers are still required to be all over the screen, at times tapping and dragging your fingers directly over the action. It only took me a couple of games to realize that Tecmo Bowl Throwback on iOS borders on ridiculous in terms of its control scheme. But even without the NFL license, a game like this could certainly be enjoyable. The first issue is that Tecmo Bowl Throwback lacks the NFL license, not exactly a surprise considering EA has long-since gobbled it up for itself. It certainly looks like a Tecmo Bowl game of yore, but it doesn't play like one, and that is a major problem. The unfortunate thing about Tecmo Bowl Throwback on iOS, however, is that it deserves no attention. Tecmo Bowl Throwback is available now on iOS for £4.Though we're quite a ways from Tecmo Bowl's heyday in the late 1980s, any game released today with its name attached to it is no doubt going to garner attention.
